Family and I

30 years ago my parents traded culture, family and country for the freedoms offered in Australia. Though I do not regret their decisions, it has been challenging to exist without understanding where I originate.

These portraits are of my family. Captured 12 months after my initial visit to Vietnam, these portraits are a culmination of hours spent discussing history, memory, place, family and war. It is these people who define me, and it is through hours of conversation with them that I am beginning to understand my identity as an Australian Vietnamese/Vietnamese Australian.
